She had gotten sick on their last trip. They had traveled⁸ to South America. She didn't know if it was something she ate⁹ or something she drank. But she was sick for a week. Their trip had lasted two weeks. "That's it," she said¹⁰. "I'm never leaving home again. If I'm going to be sick, I want to be sick in my own¹¹ house." Dad didn't mind¹² traveling¹³ alone¹⁴. He made¹⁵ friends easily¹⁶. He liked to joke¹⁷. He liked to dance. He was a real¹⁸ ladies?man. Mom didn't care¹⁹. She wasn't worried²⁰ that he might²¹ cheat²² on her. "He's 82!" she said. "If he can cheat at his age, he belongs²³ in the record²⁴ books."
