　　People say that one billion people in the world are living in slums². 人们说世界上有10亿人住在贫民窟里.

　　What are slums? 什么是贫民窟？

　　A slum is a dirty, dangerous area of the city. 贫民窟是城市中肮脏、危险的地方。

　　The living conditions in slums are very bad and houses are terribly managed. 贫民窟的生活条件很差，房子管理很糟糕。

　　Then why do people live in slums? 那为什么人们住在贫民窟里呢？

　　Usually housed in slums are very cheap because of their horrible conditions. 因为贫民窟糟糕的条件，通常租金很便宜。
