The new interim1 President of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov has said that Ukraine wants toreturn to the path of closer integration2 with European Union. The former speaker of parliamentwas appointed interim president a day after parliament voted to remove Viktor Yanukovychfrom office in the face of mass protests. Mr. Turchynov said that Ukraine was ready for a relationship based on a new equal andgood-neighborly footing with Russia, but also wanted it took into account his country'sEuropean choice. Chancellor Merkel spoke8 to President Putin on the phone. And her spokesman said afterwards,that the two had agreed that what they called the territorial9 integrity of Ukraine should bemaintained. The spokesman in Berlin said that the two leaders wanted an effective governmentfor the whole country in place quickly. Germany's trying to act a broker10 in the conflicts, to tryto assuage11 Russian fears that it wouldn't be threatened if Ukraine moves closer to theEuropean Union.

According to rebel and activists12 sources, Abu Kahled al-Suri was among several people whodied when a suicide bomber13, possibly two penetrated14 its headquarters in Aleppo, and detonateda deadly explosion. He was a leader and cofounder of one of the biggest and most effectiveIslamist rebel groups Ahara al-Sham. But he was also believed to be the main representativein Syria of the global al-Qaeda leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri who took over after Osama Bin15 Ladenwas killed. Abu Kahled al-Suri, whose real name is believed to be Muhammad Bahaiah, was aveteran al-Qaeda operative who's reported to have fought the Americans in both Afghanistanand Iraq, and to have worked closely with Osama Bin Laden16.
Prosecutors17 in Egypt have accused the ousted Islamist President Mohammed Morsi of leakingstate secrets to Iran's Revolution Guards. The charge was made during the second hearing ofhis trial for espionage18. His supporters say the accusations19 are politically motivated.
