Radio 4's obituary¹ programme, telling the lives of significant figures who have recently died. This week Matthew Bannister marks the lives of Richard Hamilton - the father of pop art who was inspired by technology and modern life. Michael Hart, who founded Project Gutenberg to digitise great works of literature and make them freely available to all. Gabriel Valdes, the Chilean politician who played a leading role in ousting² Pinochet's military junta³ Wardell Quezergue, the arranger credited with developing the New Orleans sound. He worked with Paul Simon, The Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney And the poet Herbert Lomas, whose work on the death of his wife inspired Ted⁴ Hughes to write his Birthday Letters.
