Radio 4’s obituary² programme, marking the lives of significant figures who have died recently. This week Matthew Bannister marks the lives of Gore Vidal the controversial American novelist, playwright³ and essayist and Maeve Binchy, Irish journalist and author of best selling novels including Light A Penny Candle. Ann Atkinson, poet laureate of the Peak District who was influential⁴ in shaping creative writing courses and actor Geoffrey Hughes, famous for his roles in Coronation Street, Keeping Up Appearances and The Royle Family.
