Turkey's central bank raises the key interest rate to 12 per cent in the hope of attracting investors² and supporting the flagging lira. The bank's monetary³ policy committee held an emergency meeting after the lira hit records lows against the euro and the dollar. The Thai capital, Bangkok, is bracing⁴ itself for more trouble as the government presses ahead with election plans and threatens protest leaders with arrest.
