Business Matters: Yahoo to Offload Billions of Alibaba Shares 28 Jan 15

Yahoo is spinning off billions of dollars worth of its shares in one of the most valuable companies in the world. Why? And is it something to do with avoiding tax? Japan's foreign policy is in the spotlight² after it became entangled³ in the plans of 'Islamic State'. We ask how this affects Japan's relationship with the Middle East. Apple releases financial results, which were strongly buoyed⁴ by sales in China. We ask if the forthcoming smartwatch Apple are due to release will catch on in places like Singapore, where high-end designer watches have clung on to wrist real estate for so long. Finally, with income inequality in the US still a big issue, we see how this materialises in feverish⁵ segregation⁶ within the education system.
