Business Matters: Google accused of search 'abuse' 16 April 15
Thu, 16 Apr 15
The European Commission files an official complaint against Google, accusing the internet giant of abusing its dominant1 position in web searching to promote its own services. We hear from a concerned competitor, along with a "gobsmacked" Google apologist who says it's "not illegal to be popular". Protests demanding a minimum wage increase gather momentum2 in the US. “Fight for 15” once represented mainly fast food workers but has since expanded, picking up support from other low earners. Michelle Fleury reports from New York. Plus, we ask if craft and capitalism3 can co-exist as Etsy, the website that trumpets4 handmade goods, raises money on Wall Street. We're joined throughout the programme by US public radio host Alison van Diggelen in San Francisco, and David Moser of Capital Normal University in Beijing.
