-At the heart of the Stonehenge, question what is still at hand, is the Cursus. If we can't understand how that fix together. We can't understand the landscape.Just to solve the puzzle of the Cursus, the Hidden Landscapes Project focused their survey on every centimetre of the enormous monument. After weeks of the anaylsis, the team detected a series of previously1 unkonwn breaks on the perimeter2.
-When we survey the Cursus, there are a number of features which are quite surprising for us. The first was that there were number of small entrances into the enclosure itself. It wasn't a single c* of unit. There are gaps through it. So it wasn't simply unclosed. There are ways of going in and * it.
The discovery of entrance at next points supported the theory that the Cursus was a possessional route. That the gaps were only the first clues the survey team uncovered. The data also revealed two previously unknown pits inside the Cursus. -I'm standing3 at the centre of the pit in the western end of the Cursus. This is really quite a big feature by 5 metres across, and 1.5 metres deep at least. It has a pair at the other end of the Cursus. These are clearly manmade. They are not natural features, the depth the way they cut, their position within the Cursus. These are clearly significant archaeological structures.
