Last time we learnt a short sentence which is used to ask somebody speak honestly:"Level with me."Today I would like to share a new expression with you that is similar to it but the situation used is a little different. It's often said when somebody lies. What's it? Let's get the answer from the dialogue.

A : You have got to come clean with me. You are seeing other women. B : Yeah. I have been on a few dates recently.

【答疑解惑】

It it "You have got to come clean with me." This sentence is a little longer than before. But actually the key point is "come clean ". It's an idiom which means "to admit and explain something that you've been kept as a secret". Okay, how should we put it in Chinese? Guess it! It is : 全盘招供，和盘说出。

What's more,there is a set phrase structure: come clean with somebody about something. 向某人全盘说出某事。For example: Isn't it time the goverment come clean with the public about their plan for education. 这难道不是政府向公众彻底说明教育计划的时候吗？

Here's an idiom which is similar to "come clean about something". It is : make a clean breast of something to somebody. 看到影视上，警察确实是挺辛苦的，要费尽心思去套出犯人的供词。当犯人招供后，警察会松一口气说道：The man suspected of killing² the little girl made a clean breast of everything to me after he had been questioned for a long time. 经过长时间的审讯，这个杀小姑娘的嫌疑犯招供了. Another idiom which is similar to saying "go straight" we learned³ just a few days ago. It is : clean up your act. It means start behaving in a moral⁴ or responsible way. 如果您身边有位吸毒者，您不妨对他说一句：Cheer up! You should clean up your act and come off drug in a drug rehabilitation⁵ center.
