Despite the downturn in the global economy, wedding planners and photographers say they’ve never been busier. At this year’s wedding expo in Hong Kong, people are planning for one of the most important days of their lives. And the hottest ideas have a distinctly1 S. Korean twist.

Almost no Asian wedding is complete without pre-wedding photos. Hong Konger, Ronny Chow runs a pre-wedding photography company based in Seoul, South Korea. He says the younger generation in Hong Kong is heavily influenced by "K-Pop" or South Korean pop culture.

Ronny Chow, director of Pre-Wedding Photo Company says, "People born in the late 1980s and 1990s grew up being fans of K-Pop. So, five or ten years later when they are getting married, they have an appreciation2 of South Korea, and like to have their pre-wedding photographs taken in South Korea. This is the trend.

At this year’s wedding expo in Hong Kong, people are planning for one of the most important days of their lives. And the hottest ideas have a distinctly S. Korean twist.

We opened a shop in Hong Kong a year and a half ago and the business has greatly expanded. I think the business market for pre-wedding photos taken in South Korea by local photographers and organised by South Korean planners is getting bigger."

Despite the expense of a lavish3 wedding in the economic downturn, one company says people are still splashing4 out for the big day. Rio Leung, a manager at a wedding decorations company, says people are still willing to spend to make their dreams come true.

Rio Leung, manager of JNC Wedding says, "Everyone has a dream wedding. Everyone has two big dreams: the first one is to buy a property, the second one is to get married. I believe it’s more difficult for people to afford a property, but a wedding, including decorations, only costs around 100 to 200-thousand Hong Kong dollars. With this amount of money people can fulfil5 one of their biggest dreams, and people are willing to spend on it."

For many, money is no object when it comes to tying the knot6. And while a Western wedding can still be a grand affair, more and more couples are developing a taste for the glitz and glamour7 the South Korean style.
