South Korea announced an extension of its air defense1 identification zone on Sunday. The zone encompasses2 submerged rocks within the overlapping3 exclusive economic zones of China and South Korea. China responded on Monday saying it was willing to maintain communications with South Korea on the basis of equality and mutual4 respect.

1. Good evening Mr. Ruan. Why has South Korea expanded its air defense identification zone, just days after China did the same thing? Do the two issues have any connection?
2. Japan is reacting quite differently to China and South Korea separately on their Air Defense Identification Zones. It’s calling other countries in the region like the Philippines, to oppose China’s move. Do you think this will put China in a difficult situation?
