Well, 2013 is about to pass, leaving a whole year of buzz in the musical arena1. To recall and sum up the ups and downs of 2013’s musical world, we Paul Stokes, associate editor of Q Magazine, discussed the high fliers and low riders of the music industry over the past year.

With David Bowie and Daft Punk having a productive time and Pharrell Williams appearing almost non-stop on the airwaves, Paul felt that they were achieving past successes.

"You kind of had David Bowie looking forward and looking backwards2 at the same time. And when else could you have a year when Daft Punk could return out of the blue and be overshadowed by David." Paul Stokes, associate editor of Q Magazine, said.

The Rolling Stones also made the headlines with their refusal to slow down.

buzz in the musical arena.

"The Rolling Stones, they headlined Glastonbury, dominated Hyde Park in the summer. For a band that has just celebrated3 it’s fifth decade together they’re surprisingly active." Paul said.

In terms of groups, One Direction have dominated the headlines.

"I think they invented the Brit Awards ujust for them this year which kinda says ’we don’t really like your music but you’ve sold lots of records overseas so well done.’ They’ve dominated in terms of I guess the outside impression of what’s going in music." Poll said.

But it’s not all good news with Justin Bieber making the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

"Justin Beiber obviously he was, he had his swagger on earlier in the year although apparently4 he’s killed his swagger off now. There was the whole talk that he was spitting at his neighbours allegedly. He brought a monkey to Germany for no apparent reason and then abandoned the poor creature when customs took it over. He’s fighting the papparazzi here." Paul said.

For Miley Cyrus, it is also not a pleasant year.

" There was twerking with Robin5 Thicke at the MTV Awards in the US then there was another MTV Awards in Europe and then she had to pretend to smoke a rolled up cigarette of some kind there. So I don’t know what she got in more trouble for whether it was the drugs reference or for just smoking indoors." Paul told us.

Paul Stokes says he thinks "Wrecking6 Ball" is actually a really good song. However, it’s just really hard to say ’I like wrecking ball’ because of all the other nonsense that goes with it.
