　　He gets off on the wrong foot by being late on the intervies.

　　他面试时迟到了，一开始就给人留下了不好的印象。

　　get off on the wrong foot 直译过来就是“动身的时候迈错了脚”，这个短语的真正意思是：“一开始就给人留下了不好的印象，出师不利”。因此当美国人说"He gets off on the wrong foot by being late on the intervies."时，他要表达的意思就是："He leaves a bad impression by being late on the interview."、"He disappointes us at the first sight by being late on the interview"、"The first impression he gives us is poor, for he is late in the interview."。
