China's top economic panning body says it has started formulating¹ the country’s 13th Five-Year Plan, for the period between 2016 and 2020. The focus will be on deepening reforms.

The five-year plan maps strategies for the country’s economic and social development. It determines the allocation of resources among different sectors² and industries, and sets rules for redistribution. Twelve five-year plans have been launched since 1953.

The latest five-year plan is focusing on the quality of economic growth rather than the quantity of GDP. It stressed the need to boost domestic consumption, improve people’s livelihood³, while promoting clean energy.
