Living in a fast-paced society, many people find it hard to get in some quality reading time. With World Reading Day approaching, CCTV talked with people from all walks of life, on how much time they had to take in some reading. Let’s see what they had to say.

"I think reading is a good choice when you’re alone, better than playing PC games, which most students do now. It can help you think about the past and future. You can find some similarities1 from the writer’s work." A resident2 in Zhejiang province said.

"I liked reading very much when I was young. There were few books at that time, so usually we just borrowed books, and sometimes even ’stole’ books from friends and relatives. Once I took the book ’a Dream in Red Mansions’ from my relatives’ home, and later he found it and asked me to return it. It was very interesting." Writer Jia Pingwa said.

"Books were very precious3 in the past because of scarce4 resources5. Now many other resources compete with books, so they are not that important." A Beijing college student said.

"My primary school teacher said a person should give himself three tasks for their whole life: reading, reading and reading. I’ve been to more than 180 countries and I find that countries with fast progress have lots of people who like reading." Former Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing said.

"'Heart’ is my favourite book. In this book, kids like helping6 others. Teachers are nice. If it’s a small mistake, the teacher just reminds him and won’t be so angry." A Beijing student said.

"I’m 76. I graduated from the university before the Cultural Revolution7. Our generation had only one wish: reading." A Beijing resident said.
