According to survey results released on Monday, the number of books read per year by Chinese adults has essentially1 stayed the same, but newspapers and magazines are falling out of favor. The survey polled over 40,000 adults in 29 provincial-level regions, and found that Chinese read a little less than 5 print books and over 2 digital ones in a year. 

 

For more analysis, we're joined by Mr. Liu Shinan, a senior columnist2 at China Daily. Good evening, Mr. Liu.

 

1. The current trend is of paper books increasingly being replaced by digital ones. What are your views on this - is this a positive change?

 

2. Right now many bookstores are struggling to survive. How do you look at the future of the publishing industry?
