Hot on the heels of Typhoon Rammasun, another typhoon is expected to strengthen and threaten Taiwan. The center of Typhoon Matmo is currently¹ about 1,200 kilometers southeast of Taipei, with level 12 gales², and it is moving northwest at 20 to 25 kilometers per hour.

The typhoon is expected to hit east Taiwan around Tuesday night. Heavy rain is expected, with a possible threat of flooding. Matmo is also expected to make landfall in eastern China somewhere south of Shanghai, most likely in Fujian or Zhejiang provinces on Thursday.
