This year marks the 120th anniversary of the First Sino-Japanese War, commonly known in China as the "War of Jiawu". It began in 1894 and ended with China’s defeat in 1895. The war was a devastating1 blow to China’s then-rulers, the Qing dynasty.

 

For more analysis, we're now joined in the studio by Teng Jianqun, Director of the Center of Arms Control at the China Institute of International Studies. Thank you for joining us.

 

Q1: Relations between China and Japan have come under strain again. How can China draw lessons from the past war and apply the lessons to today’s relationships?
