The death toll1 of magnitude-6.5 earthquake that rocked the city of Zhaotong in Southwest China’s Yunnan Province has now climbed to 410, 12 are confirmed as missing and more than two thousand and three hundred people were injured.

 

Over one million people in Ludian, Qiaojia, Zhaoyang counties, and Huize county in the neighboring city of Qujing have been affected2. Nearly 230-thousand people have been relocated to safer places. China’s earthquake administration has launched its highest level emergency response.

 

100 rescuers from Chinese International Search and Rescue Team have entered the most heavily-hit villages. Professional medical teams and experts have also been dispatched from nearby provinces and Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Epidemic3 prevention workers have started to disinfect the affected areas. The central government has allocated4 600 million yuan for disaster relief so far.
