China's former security chief Zhou Yongkang has been sentenced to life in prison for bribery1, abuse of power and intentional2 disclosure of state secrets. He has also been stripped of his political rights for life and will have his personal assets confiscated3.

 

The Number One Intermediate People's Court in Tianjin city announced the sentence on Thursday. Zhou admitted to his guilt4 during his trial and said he would not appeal.

 

Zhou Yongkang is a former Standing5 Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China's Central Committee.
