On Tuesday, the Chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, Zhang Dejiang, heard briefings by principal officials, including Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying.

Zhang said the SAR government has worked to earnestly implement the principles of "one country, two systems". He expressed confidence in a bright future for Hong Kong. Zhang later inspected the Development Bureau, which is in charge of land use planning.

His visit is the first one by a central government leader since 2012, when then-President Hu Jintao participated in the 15th anniversary celebrations of Hong Kong's return to China.
