2. Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal says his state is working on a chain of sand berms that would skirt the state's coastline. The berms would be made with sandbags. The hope is that they would close the door on the oil spill pouring from a busted well 50 miles off the Louisiana coast.

3. Masked men and security forces are trading gunfire in a barricaded slum in Jamaica's capital. The government has declared a state of emergency. Local media say at least two people have been wounded in the violence, both are security officers.

4. Police say the husband of deceased actress Brittany Murphy has died. Screenwriter Simon Monjack's body was found Sunday night at his home in the Hollywood Hills. Officers continue to investigate, but police say it looks like natural causes. Monjack's death comes five months after the death of his wife.
