1. An enormous mistake may cost the top US official in Afghanistan his job. General Stanley McChrystal has been summoned to the White House from Afghanistan to explain some unflattering comments he made about President Barack Obama and his aides in a Rolling Stone magazine interview.

2. A relative of the so-called Bin Laden Hunter says Pakistan is releasing the Colorado man without charges. Gary Faulkner was arrested after being found with a pistol, a sword and night-vision equipment. He told officials he was out to kill the al-Qaeda leader.

3. Oil rig workers say they are excited to get back to work after a federal judge struck down a six-month ban on deepwater drilling. The judge said his ruling Tuesday that the government improperly concluded just because one rig failed others are in danger too. The White House says it plans to file an immediate appeal.

4. BP shares are falling to their lowest point in 13 years. That comes as CEO Tony Hayward hands over control of the oil spill cleanup to managing director Bob Dudley.
