1. Senate Republicans are firing back at the latest criticism from President Barack Obama. He's accusing them of standing in the way of extended unemployment benefits. GOP lawmakers say they will support an extension only if the bill is paid for and it doesn't add to the national debt.
2. A White House spokesman says BP's ruptured oil well is leaking at the top along with seepage about two miles away. Robert Gibbs also says officials are monitoring bubbles that can be seen on an underwater camera. Leaks could mean the well cap has to be opened to prevent oil and gas from escaping elsewhere.
3. Police in New York City say an EMT under criminal investigation for allegedly refusing to help a dying pregnant woman has been fatally shot. Authorities say the shooting happened near a New York City nightclub. So far, no arrests have been made.
4. And a platypus in Australia was looking for love in all the wrong places. This one-year-old mammal had to be flushed out of a pipe at a sewage treatment plant. He ventured down the pipe, looking for a mate |
