1. Coastal communities up and down the Eastern Seaboard are taking a wait-and-see approach as Hurricane Earl continues to churn in the Atlantic. The storm has dumped inches of rain on some Caribbean islands, and forecasters say Puerto Rico could see another eight inches of rain.

 

2. President Barack Obama will speak to the nation tonight as the US combat mission in Iraq comes to an end. Currently, there are less than 50,000 US troops in Iraq. Their new mission is to continue to train Iraqi forces. More than 90,000 US troops have left Iraq since President Obama took office.

 

3. Mexico’s attorney general says authorities have captured long-sought drug kingpin Edgar Valdez Villarreal. He is alleged to be leading one of the two factions battling for control of a major drug cartel. US authorities have offered a two-million-dollar reward for information leading to his arrest.

 

4. Bristol Palin will soon be dancing across your TV screen. The daughter of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is among the contestants for the new season of ABC's Dancing With the Stars. David Hasselhoff and TV personality Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino are also slated to appear. The new season starts September 20th.
