CNN finally made it official today that British tabloid veteran Piers Morgan will be taking over for Larry King. In January, Morgan will take over the chair that King has occupied at CNN for the past 25 years. He says he came to CNN “to win,” and that he wants to combine brilliant interviews with great ratings. That would be fine with CNN, which has fallen behind in the ratings at 9 p.m. to the other two cable networks, Fox and MSNBC. Negotiations between CNN and Morgan dragged on for months, but the company worked out a deal that will allow him to continue on “America’s Got Talent” and his British talk show “Piers Morgan's Life Stories.” Morgan said following King is like “replacing Frank Sinatra at the Sands.” The final edition of Larry King Live will air in the December.
