1. A US district court judge is expected to decide today if she's willing to do what President Obama has yet to accomplish. Virginia Phillips may decide to halt the military’s ban on openly gay troops. Phillips declared the "don't ask, don't tell” policy unconstitutional back in September. Today, she will rule on the injunction against the ban.

 

2. For the first time in nearly a century, Virginia has put a woman to death. Teresa Louis was convicted of arranging the killings of her husband and stepson. Louis's execution was the first of a woman in the US in five years.

 

3. Towns in South Dakota and Minnesota remain under water after a day full of rain. And forecasters say it might not let up today. The National Guard has delivered thousands of sandbags to residents in Wisconsin as well. Officials say they've also evacuated hundreds of homes.

 

4. Entertainer Eddie Fisher has died at the age of 82. Fisher, who sold millions of records in the 1950s, may be best known for his marriages to Debbie Reynolds and Elizabeth Taylor. Both ended in divorce and both were full of scandal. Fisher's daughter says her father died of complications from hip surgery.
