凯瑟琳升职记:入职篇之与大家接触很重要（在线收听）

刚到公司的凯瑟琳对环境不太熟悉，跟同事接触也不多。同事们谈笑时，她总是在一旁默默做事。一个友好的同事劝他：“it's important for you to rub elbows with everyone."凯瑟琳听后很疑惑，为什么要和同事交流还要接触他们的手肘呢，她决定问一问同事

Colleague：I think you should communicate with all the colleges. It's important for you to rub elbows with everyone.
同事：我觉得你应该跟同事们都交流一下。与大家接触接触是很重要的

Catherine：what do you mean?do i have to touch others' elbows in order to communicate with them?
凯瑟琳：什么意思啊 ？难道要和同事交流我还要接触他们的手肘么？

Colleague：no.“It's important for you to rub elbows with everyone”simply means that it's important for you to communicate with  others.
同事：不是啊 。“it's important for you to rub elbows with everyone”就是指跟同事交流很重要的

Catherine: Oh  I see.thank you for your advice.
凯瑟琳：我明白了。谢谢你的建议。

rub是“摩擦”的意思 elbow是“手肘”的意思。从字面上看，rub elbows with sb.是“摩擦别人的手肘”的意思 它的引申义是“与某人挨很近”那也就是说出去和别人多多接触和交际。所以It's important for you to rub elbows with everyone的意思就是与大家接触接触是很重要的。这句话的用法很广泛，比如对于刚刚入职的新同事，你就可以对他说这句话，说不定会消除他们的紧张与拘束呢。
