凯瑟琳升职记:入职篇之别挑剔了（在线收听）

由于工作出色，Catherine得到了升职，连办公室也换了。Catherine来到新办公室，发现一切都很好，就是面积不是很大。她小声说出自己的意思后，好友Jane赶紧把她拉到一旁，说：Don't knock it! Catherine听后不解，心想：我敲什么了？这里没什么易碎玻璃之类的呀？Jane看出了Catherine的迷惑。

Jane: Well, you must be considering the meaning of the word "knock".
珍妮：哎，你一定是在考虑knock这个词的意思吧？

Catherine: You said it! you told me not to knock it, knock what?
凯瑟琳：你说对了！你告诉我不要“敲打”，敲打什么？

Jane: "Don't knock it" is frequently used to persuade someone to be satisfied with the situation. You know, you are too hard to please.  
珍妮：Don't knock it这个句子总是用于劝说一个人要知足。知道吗，你这个人太难满足。
Don't knock it!别挑剔了！

Don't knock it这个短语的表面意思是“不要敲它”，但在口语中，它的引申义却是“不要再折腾它了，别挑剔了，满足吧“。试想，一个好端端的玩意儿摆在你面前，你非要拿起来这敲敲，那碰碰，明摆着是鸡蛋里头挑骨头吗，所以Don't knock it就是告诉你别挑剔了，这已经不错了。
