1. A deal extending the Bush-era tax cuts is possible by the end of the week. It's believed congressional negotiators are working with the White House on a plan that would extend the breaks and extend unemployment benefits for millions of Americans who have been out of work for months and are about to lose their checks.

 

2. Julian Assange who runs Wikileaks is considering asylum in Switzerland. Assange is wanted in Sweden on allegations of sexual offenses against two women. He's also been denounced in the US and elsewhere over hundreds of thousands of leaked documents. Assange tells a Spanish newspaper he's faced hundreds of death threats.

 

3. A small plane crashed into a neighborhood in Utah, setting at least two homes on fire. Fire officials say the plane clipped a power line and went down. The pilot was the only person aboard. He survived but suffered serious injuries.

 

4. Gas prices continue to jump across the country. The Lundberg Survey says the price of a gallon of regular is now up to 2.91 - that is up nearly four cents in the past couple of weeks. The cheapest place to fill up is Denver, where the average is 2.61 a gallon.
