1. A Colorado man now faces obscenity charges after officials say he sold detectives in Florida a copy of a how-to guide for paedophiles. However, legal experts question the arrest. They say Philip Greaves's right to free speech would come into play if there was a trial.

2. Authorities say major flooding in California's San Joaquin Valley is forcing the evacuation of more than 2,000 residents. It's estimated up to 500 homes are in danger of flooding after days of persistent rain.

3. Iran's state TV says seven people are dead, another 33 injured, after a 6.5 magnitude quake struck southeastern Iran. The quake struck in a small sparsely populated town.

4. Stargazers got something special to look at overnight - a total eclipse of the moon. It started around 1:30 and lasted until 3 am. This lunar eclipse happened on the same day as the winter solstice, the first time that's happened since 1638.
