1. An explosion at a Kabul supermarket has left at least eight people dead and injured others. Police say at least three of the dead are foreigners. The grocery store is situated in a heavily-guarded district popular with Westerners.
2. Protesters are once again clashing with police in Egypt. Riots police use water cannons, tear gas and rubber bullets to try to subdue the crows. This is the biggest challenge yet to President Hosni Mubarak’s 30-year rule.
3. A massive fire tore through an Australia paint factory. Sixteen Australian fire crews used high-powered hoses to fight the blaze. The fire forced evacuations in the Sydney suburb of Mount Druitt. Air quality tests were carried out before residents were able to return to their homes.
4. And former South African President Nelson Mandela has been released from a hospital. Officials said the 92-year-old was joking with his wife and nurses, and handling the difficulties of old-age wealth. Mandela spent about two days in the hospital and will now receive follow-up care at home. |
