[00:09.13]How do we deal with our problems?
[00:13.14]Section 1 Before You Read

[00:22.05]recently?
[00:23.47]Tell a partner how you dealt with them.
[00:27.42]1b Look up the meaning of each word in the box
[00:31.59]in a dictionary.
[00:32.98]deal unless unfair affect solve
[00:41.03]challenge regard smart duty instead
[00:49.87]Section 2 While You Read
[00:53.65]Learning strategy:
[00:56.11]USING DICTIONARIES
[00:58.60]Dictionaries are useful learning tools,
[01:01.85]but many English words have different meanings
[01:04.98]and usages.
[01:06.77]We need to make sure that the definitions we
[01:10.24]find in dictionaries match the context.
[01:15.41]How do we deal with our problems?
[01:18.12]Rich or poor, young or old,we all have problems.
[01:23.11]And unless we deal with our problems,
[01:25.69]we can easily become unhappy.
[01:28.74]Worrying about our problems can affect how we do
[01:31.28]at school.
[01:32.74]It can also influence the way we behave with our
[01:35.45]families.
[01:36.93]So how do we deal with our problems?
[01:39.88]There are many ways.
[01:42.34]By learning to forget
[01:44.98]Most of us have probably been angry with our
[01:47.22]friends,parents or teachers.
[01:49.96]Perhaps they said something you didn't like,
[01:52.56]or you felt they were unfair.
[01:55.53]Sometimes,people can stay angry for years about
[01:58.18]a small problem.
[02:00.01]Time goes by,and good friendships may be lost.
[02:04.86]When we are angry however,
[02:06.20]we are usually the ones affected.
[02:09.15]Perhaps we have seen young children playing
[02:11.19]together.
[02:12.57]Sometimes they have disagreements and decide not
[02:15.62]to talk to each other.
[02:17.61]However,this usually does not last for long.
[02:21.26]This is an important lesson for us:
[02:24.14]we can solve a problem by learning to forget.
[02:28.50]By regarding problems as challenges
[02:32.57]Many students often complain about school.
[02:35.93]They might feel they have too much work to do
[02:37.94]sometimes,or think the rules are too strict.
[02:41.91]We must learn how to change these "problems"
[02:44.34]into "challenges".
[02:46.45]Education is an important part of our
[02:48.71]development.
[02:50.25]As young adults,it is our duty to try our best
[02:53.34]to deal with each challenge in our education
[02:56.07]with the help of our teachers.
[02:59.63]By thinking of something worse
[03:03.05]By comparing yourself to other people,
[03:05.27]you will find your problems are not so terrible.
[03:08.85]Think about Stephen Hawking,for example,
[03:11.42]a very clever scientist,
[03:12.90]who regards his many physical problems as
[03:16.01]unimportant.
[03:17.41]He can't walk or even speak,
[03:19.66]but he has become very famous and successful.
[03:23.61]We are probably quite healthy and smart.
[03:26.35]Let's not worry about our problems.
[03:29.04]Let's face the challenges instead.
[03:32.23]Section 3 After You Read
[03:36.33]3a Look at the words from 1b again.
[03:41.01]Check(√) the words that were used differently
[03:43.85]from the definition you found in the dictionary.
[03:47.50]deal unless unfair affect solve
[03:55.55]challenge regard smart duty instead
[04:04.61]3b Look up the following words in a dictionary.
[04:09.41]Write out the example given for the context used
[04:13.26]in the reading.
[04:15.97]3c Scan the reading,and check(√)the ways of
[04:21.09]dealing with problems that are mentioned.
[04:25.48]Section 4 Go For It!
[04:29.21]Look at the reading again.
[04:31.51]Which way of dealing with problems do you think
[04:34.31]is the best?
[04:36.14]Write about a time when you dealt with a problem
[04:39.66]this way.
[04:42.18]If you have time!
[04:45.05]Think of another way of dealing with problems.
[04:48.59]Tell a partner about this.
