[08:02.32]All new houses in Davis must have the proper insulation
[08:09.19]so that heat will not escape unnecessarily during the winter.
[08:15.43]New houses must also face north or south,
[08:21.49]so that they will not be overheated by the sun in summer.
[08:27.24]The law definitely has had effect.
[08:31.89]Since 1976, there has been a 50 percent saving
[08:38.34]in the amount of natural gas and electricity
[08:43.70]used in heating and air-conditioning.
[08:48.14]There are other energy saving features about Davis.
[08:53.70]Buses,partially supported by the city,
[08:58.56]transport university students throughout the area.
[09:03.81]There are 24 miles of bicycle paths,
[09:08.85]and today there are twice as many bicycles as cars in the city.
[09:15.30]By reducing the available parking space,the city Council has succeeded
