1. The head of the International Monetary Fund will be in a New York City courtroom this morning. Dominique Strauss-Kahn faces charges he sexually assaulted a maid in his New York hotel room. Strauss-Kahn's attorneys say he will vigorously fight the charges. 2. Floodwaters diverted from New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, are starting to flood the Mississippi River basin. Many of the towns that could eventually be under up to 20 feet of water have practically emptied out. Water started spilling into people's backyards on Sunday, but it could be at least a week before the crest arrives at some locations downstream. 3. The Vatican is telling bishops around the world to cooperate with police in reporting priests who rape and molest children. The document also says guidelines for preventing sex abuse should be developed by next May. The recommendations are non-binding and abuse victims say they don't go nearly far enough. 4. And that the latest craze on the dance floors of Mexico. Sequent cowboy boots with pointy toes so long, they curled up toward the knees. The trend started in Matehuala, a city of about 90,000 people 18 months ago, and it spread to nearby villages and showed up as far away as Mississippi and Texas. |
