1. The rising Missouri River has ruptured two levees in northwest Missouri. That sent torrents of floodwaters to the rural farmland toward the Iowa town of Hamburg and the Missouri resort town of Big Lake.
2. House officials say the House Ethics Committee staff has initiated a preliminary inquiry into Congressman Anthony Weiner. The probe of sexually charged online relationships with several women could take many months.
3. President Barack Obama announced details of a program to train 10,000 new American engineers every year. Private companies will join the government to promote education in science, technology, engineering and math. They'll offer incentives to students to finish their degrees and help universities pay for their engineering programs.
4. And don't expect added airline fees to go away any time soon. The government says airlines collected 3.4 billion dollars in baggage fees last year, that's up 24% from 2009. Analysts say without the fees the industry would be losing money. |
