Good morning. The wreckage of a plane that was carrying 13 people including 9 Australians has been found in Papua New Guinea. A rescue helicopter located the wreckage in the rugged Owen Stanley Range. There’s no word yet on the fate of those on board. The plane lost radio contact during a flight from Port Moresby to a site near the Kokoda Track yesterday morning. It has been confirmed one of the Australians on board the PNG Airlines flight is Bendigo man Peter Holiday. He planned to walk the Kokoda Track with his cousin in honor of their grandfather who served in World War II. Rio Tinto official Stern Hu and three of his colleagues have been formally arrested on suspicion of violating commercial secrets and taking bribes. The Australian national has been held in detention in Shanghai for 5 weeks along with three Chinese Rio employees. The Federal Government says it hasn’t been informed of the arrests. And fierce Senate debate will continue today on a proposed emissions trading scheme. The Federal Opposition has again accused the government of using the dispute as an early election trigger. Coalition Senators will vote against the government’s emissions trading scheme tomorrow. And there will be more news later. |
