The Nationals say there will be many more interest rate rises in the future. The opposition is blaming the Government's stimulus spending for the Reserve Bank’s decision to lift rates by 25 basis points. Nationals leader Warren Truss, says the coalition warned the government it was spending too much and in a poorly targeted way.
Treasury official, Godwin Grech, has reportedly resigned from the public service. His forged email sparked the OzCar affair earlier this year. The Australian Newspaper says he left about a week ago. Mr. Grech had been on leave since June when federal police raided his home after his appearance before a parliamentary committee.
Former Prime Minister John Howard has declined to comment on reports that he's been approached to head a new body to run the NRL. News Limited papers are reporting Mr. Howard has been contacted by the head of the Gold Coast Titans to be chairman of an independent commission to run the rugby league.
And one of the most wanted suspects in Rwanda's 1994 genocide has been arrested. Former intelligence chief, Idelphonse Nizeyimana, was taken into custody in Uganda. He is among the dozen most wanted suspects sought by the United Nations' court investigating the genocide.
