Malcolm Turnbull has won the backing of the Coalition Party room to negotiate amendments to the Government's emissions trading scheme. The opposition leader wants to permanently exclude agriculture, protect the coal industry and keep electricity prices low. But some Coalition MPs say they'll still vote against the scheme.
Australia's unemployment rate is predicted to peak at 6.8% by the middle of next year. The prediction is the latest business outlook from Access Economics, and it's less than the government's estimate. The forecast says the economy will return to trend growth by early 2011.
A sheriff in the United States has confirmed that the balloon boy saga was a hoax. A massive search and rescue operation sparked a media frenzy last week when it was thought that a six year old boy was in a runaway helium balloon floating across Colorado. The boy was later found hiding in the family's garage. No charges have been laid yet.
And Mark Webber has won his second Grand Prix, but the win in Brazil was overshadowed by Jenson Button. The Britain came fifth, but it was good enough for him to claim victory in the overall championship.
