Greens Leader Bob Brown says he wants to be involved in any public debate on the proposed emissions trading scheme. Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has challenged the Prime Minister to a series of debates on the bill before it's reintroduced to Parliament in February. But Kevin Rudd has dismissed the request, saying the Opposition should work out its own policy on climate change before calling for debate on the issue. Police have described the crash southwest of Sydney as one of the worst road accidents in memory. A family of five, including a child died when their car crashed into an oncoming semitrailer. Police say the force of the impact was so great (that) they couldn't tell if the car was a sedan or a ute. The West Australian Government is confident a planned merger of BHP and Rio Tinto's iron ore assets will be approved. The proposal is being strongly opposed by steel producers in Asia and Europe, and needs approval from bodies including the European Commission. And the international researchers have traced the ancestry of a group of Melburnians back thousands of years. It's part of a global project to chart humanity's migration patterns over the last 60,000 years. Participants say the results show just how similar everybody is. |
