A bushfire near Moore River about 100 kilometers north of Perth has been contained. The fire threat has now eased for the coastal areas of Lancelin, Ledge Point, Ocean Farms and Seaview Park. A lightning strike yesterday afternoon caused the bushfire which has burnt through almost 6,000 hectares. No one has been injured and there's been no property damage.

At least three million dollars of damage was done by floodwaters in Coonamble in western New South Wales. The Castlereagh River last night peaked close to the town's levee height, but it wasn't breached. The town's mayor says damage has been done to road and council infrastructure. Residents downstream from Coonamble are now preparing for floodwaters to move their way.

The White House says US terror watch lists have been radically revised following the foiled bomb attack on a passenger plane. US President Barack Obama says systemic intelligence failures allowed a young Nigerian man to board the plane in Amsterdam even though he was on a terrorist watch list. Mr. Obama has now returned to Washington after a less than restful vacation in Hawaii.

And scientists are concerned about a new study that's found significant seaweed growth on the Great Barrier Reef. The study found more than 40% of the system's inshore reef is dominated by seaweed.
