The Federal Opposition says the sailors caught up in an alleged navy sex scandal have been treated appallingly by the military justice system. The chief of the Defense Force yesterday ordered a new independent inquiry into allegations three sailors were running the ledger of female colleagues they had sex with after the first inquiry was found to be biased. The Opposition says the culture of the military justice system must change.

Weather conditions are easing in Victoria after yesterday's violent storms, Melbourne's west was hardest hit by the front, with flash flooding damaging buildings and bringing down trees.
And in Adelaide, police have charged a 30-year-old man over a fatal car bombing in the city's north. Two people were killed when the car exploded in a suburban street yesterday. Police say one of the victims was a known criminal.
