Victorian police say they’ll do everything they can to find out what happened to a three-year-old Indian boy whose body was found in Melbourne last night. Three-year-old Gurshan Singh disappeared from a relative's home in Lalor yesterday. His body was found about 30 kilometers away. “This is a terrible tragedy. We’re doing everything within our power to establish what has happened. Clearly the circumstances are suspicious, so we’re assuming the worst.” The three-year-old was on holiday in Australia with his parents and was due to fly home next week.
Floodwaters are rising at St George in Queensland's southern inland. The state government has declared a state of emergency with the Balonne River expected to peak about 14 meters later today. Authorities say it's the region's biggest flood in about 120 years.
And Olympic and world champion Steve Hooker has won the pole vault on the Australian Athletics meeting in Melbourne. But he has fallen short in his attempt to beat the world record. The West Australian finished 55 centimeters clear of his next rival. Dani Samuels also had a win in the discus with a throw of 63 meters. While Sally McLellan had to work hard for her win in the 200 meters.
I’ll have more news updates later. |
