Prime Minister Julia Gillard is expected to take a tougher approach to border protection when she announces her policy on asylum seekers this week. He told reporters he made a silly mistake and he took the cocaine after getting drunk watching the soccer World Cup. An Australian AIDS expert says the world is facing a rolling holocaust because millions of sufferers are denied life-saving treatment. Bill Bowtell who helped draft Australia's policy on AIDS, says the global financial crisis has slowed an international response to the pandemic. The owners and captain of a ship that spilled 270,000 litres of oil off Queensland will face court today. The Pacific Adventurer captain and his employer, Swire Shipping, are charged with disposing of oil in coastal waters and failing to notify authorities. The spill caused a major clean-up of Queensland beaches in 2009. |
