1. From New York City to Shanksville, Pennsylvania to the Pentagon in Virginia, thousands of relatives of those lost in the terror attacks on September 11 gathered for ten-year memorials. President Obama visited the locations. In New York, relatives also gathered beside the new 9/11 memorial and sketched names in the engravings of those lost. 2. 9/11 memorials were also being held around the world. In Iraq and Afghanistan, US troops also held observances remembering those lost and reflected on the ongoing campaign against terror.
3. There have been some scattered anti-American demonstrations. In the Pakistani cities of Islamabad and Multan, about a hundred supporters of an Islamic political party held up banners repeating conspiracy theories about the attacks.
4. Football is officially underway. Three days after the Packers and the Saints held their first game of the season, most other NFL teams kicked off the season in the first full Sunday of action today, many with opening remembrances for 9/11. |
