BERLIN, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- German record champion Bayern Munich wrapped their third win in group A thanks to the hat rick by striker Mario Gomez against Naples within the first half on Wednesday. German giant Bayern staged a powerful performance against harmless Naples and consequently the Bavarians opened the scoring through striker Mario Gomez. Bayern dominated Naples through out the half as striker Mario Gomez was able to score another two goals (23, 42) to underline the one sided affair.
It looked like an easy evening for Bayern but Naples showed will and was able to shorten the score to 2-3 owing two goals by defender Federico Fernandez (45, 79). Both sides finished the match with 10 men as Naples defender Juan Zuniga booked two yellow cards so as Bayern defender Holger Badstuber.
Bayern was able to kill the clock against frenetic Naples to remain on top of group A of UEFA Champions League. Bayern occupies first position with 10 points followed by Manchester City with seven points, Naples with five points and Villarreal none points out of four matches.
"Naples has demonstrated great morale. At this level you get nothing for free. We must be happy with that victory," Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes said.
Bayern incurred a loss as midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger suffered a collarbone fracture in tackle. He will be out of action for approximately six weeks. |
