LOS ANGELES, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Academy Award winner Brian Grazer will join Don Mischer to co-produce the 84th Academy Awards telecast, a day after Brett Ratner resigned from the gig for using a gay slur, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Wednesday. "Brian Grazer is a renowned filmmaker who over the past 25 years has produced a diverse and extraordinary body of work," Academy President Tom Sherak said. "He will certainly bring his tremendous talent, creativity and relationships to the Oscars."
Grazer, 60, who will produce the show for the first time, said he is excited about the job.
"It's very gratifying to be part of a show that honors excellence in the medium to which I have devoted so much of my career," Grazer said in a prepared statement released by the academy. "Don is a legend, and I am excited to work with him."
Mischer, referring to Grazer's inclusion in the show's production, said, "I am thrilled to welcome Brian Grazer as my partner and that we will be collaborating to produce an outstanding show."
Ratner, 42, who was to produce the telecast with Mischer, stepped down from the production Tuesday.
He has come under fire for making a series of ill-judged remarks, including saying "rehearsal is for fags" at a Los Angeles screening of his latest film "Tower Heist" Friday evening. Ratner also discussed his sex life with Howard Stern during a satellite radio interview, which covered some raunchy topics. |
