[01:48.88]Section I.
[01:51.67]You will hear two friends talking about a holiday trip they plan to make.
[01:57.86]First,look at questions 1 to 7.
[02:02.78]At this point you would normally hear the example.
[02:08.03]Because you have already heard the example it is not repeated here.
[02:14.50]Now we shall begin.
[02:19.10]You should answer the questions as you listen
[02:23.49]because you will not hear the recording a second time.
[02:28.38]First,you have another chance to look at questions 1 to 7.
[02:34.15]Now,listen carefully and answer questions 1 to 7.
[02:36.50]STOP YOUR TAPE
[02:39.58]Jane:Hello Steve.How are you?
[02:43.58]Steve:Oh I'm not too bad today, thank you Jane.
[02:48.28]How are you?How did you go in the exam
[02:53.27]Jane:I'm not sure.I haven't got all my results yet,
[02:58.65]but I'm so glad we're coming up to the end of the semester.
[03:03.85]I really need a holiday,so I'm going camping with some friends.
[03:09.55]What are you doing over the semester break,Steve?
[03:14.14]Steve:I haven't got any plans yet.
[03:18.04]I don't really have enough money to fly home.
[03:22.63]I suppose I could get a part-time job and earn some money,
[03:27.94]but I don't really want to.
[03:31.12]Then again, maybe I could start studying for next semester.
[03:36.71]Jane:Mmm.I thought about doing some summer courses,
[03:41.81]but I decided that's not a good idea.
[03:46.01]I need a break or I'll get stale.
[03:50.30]I need to do something completely different. You do too.
[03:55.68]Why don't you join me and my friends on the camping trip?
[04:00.17]Steve:Well,I don't know really.Would your friends mind?
[04:05.45]Jane:No,of course not. They'd be happy to have you along.
[04:11.14]We're going down to the Royal National Park.
[04:15.43]Have you been there yet? Steve:No,I haven't.
[04:19.74]It's somewhere south of Sydney isn't It?
[04:23.84]Jane:Yes,it's about 30 kilometres south of Sydney.
[04:28.83]We'll be getting an early train from Central to sutherland.
[04:34.23]It leaves Central at seven and goes to Waterfall via sutherland.
[04:40.43]Amin and Lucy are joining us there because they live in Caringbah.
[04:46.30]Steve:Oh,I see.That is very early.
[04:50.80]And who did you say will join the train at Caringbah?
[04:55.99]Jane:No,not at Caringbah.At Sutherland.
[05:00.49]Amin and Lucy. Then,from Waterfall,
[05:05.69]we'll hike to where we're goingto be spending the first few days.
[05:11.88]That's at Garie beach.
[05:15.09]Steve:What's the park like?
[05:17.99]Is it on the coast,or inland?
[05:22.09]Jane:It's on the coast,but it's very big,over 15,000 hectares
[05:28.67]and there are a couple of rivers, especially one big one,the Hacking.
[05:35.47]Steve:Can you do anything on this river? Can we go on it?
[05:40.35]Jane:Oh yeah,lots. You can hire boats--go boating--row boats.
[05:47.33]Steve:Row boats. Hey,that sounds fun?
[05:52.00]Um,and what about scuba diving or horse riding?
[05:57.09]Can we do any of those things?
[06:00.28]Jane:Well there isn't much point in scuba diving around there
[06:05.69]and there aren't any reefs or anything,
[06:09.97]so there's not much underwater Life.
[06:13.94]And because it's a national park,domestic animals aren't allowed.
[06:19.82]Steve:So what equipment do we need to bring with us if we're going?
[06:25.80]Do we have to carry all our food for a week?
[06:29.90]Jane:No.We've got organized for the food to go down with a van,
[06:36.30]so we don't have to carry too much.
[06:40.20]You know Dave's van.
[06:43.38]It's a camper with a fridge and cooking things,
[06:47.77]so we needn't bother with that.
[06:51.25]But you'll need to bring a sleeping bag.
[06:55.53]I've got an extra one I can lend you if you haven't got one.
[07:01.12]Steve:And what type of clothes should
[07:05.09]I bring Like, what's the weath- er going to be like?
[07:08.98]Jane:Bathers.Definitely bathers'cause there are beaches,and the river
[07:15.17]You can swim in the river.
[07:18.57]There's some beautiful little swimming holes with waterfalls in the river.
[07:24.47]Um...good hiking boots strong boots and socks
[07:30.38]I think you need a few pairs of socks because if they get wet
[07:36.18]it's often difficult to dry them.
[07:39.89]Otherwise,whatever you prefer to hike in.
[07:44.38]If you like shorts that's OK.
[07:47.98]Steve:And what about my bicycle?Should I bring that?
[07:52.87]Jane:Not really.Well,you could.
[07:57.26]There are places to cycle,
[08:00.55]but none of us are cycling this time.
[08:04.86]But you will need a warm sweater or jacket for the evenings.
[08:10.27]Steve:So that's a bit of a pity.
[08:13.77]I rather like cycling, but not really on my own.
[08:19.15]And do we have to book anything? Like the train, maybe?
[08:23.96]Jane:No,we don't need to book the train.
[08:27.85]And we've already booked beds in the youth hostel.
[08:32.63]We've booked eight beds and so far we've only got six people,
[08:37.93]so it's fine for you to come along.
[08:41.54]Steve:And do we need a guide?
[08:44.72]STOP YOUR TAPE
[08:47.91]Jane goes on to talk about some of the activities that they can do in the park.
[08:54.00]Look at questions 8 to 11,the plan of the park and the list of activities.
[09:01.47]As you listen
[09:04.24]write the appropriate activities in the correct area of the park.
[09:09.62]Jane does not mention every area of the park.
[09:14.01]You will have to leave some areas empty
[09:18.71]and you will not use all of the activities.
[09:23.20]You will be given time at the end of the conversation
[09:27.80]to copy your answers against questions 8 to 11.
[09:32.89]STOP YOUR TAPE
[09:36.08]Steve:And do we need a guide?
[09:39.27]Jane:Oh no.Look here's a map.I'll show you.
[09:44.54]Now,you see these arrows?
[09:48.23]They're the marked walking trails.
[09:52.43]This is Waterfall, where we get off the train.
[09:57.42]Then we'll walk to Garie beach and stay at the hostel there.
[10:02.52]You see this area beyond the youth hostel,to the south?
[10:08.39]Those are rocky bluffs
[10:11.58]and there are lots of animals and birds in this area.
[10:16.18]You can spend hours just watching them.
[10:20.17]Now this area here, around Garie itself,
[10:25.37]has fabulous beaches for swimming and walking, and in some parts
[10:31.28]there are rock pools with fascinating sea creatures in them.
[10:36.79]Steve:So there are plenty of places to swim.
[10:40.97]Jane:Yeah,there are great places to swim.
[10:45.46]Then to the north of Garie,
[10:48.65]along the coast there are some wonderful cliffs walk along,
[10:54.05]where you can get spectacular views.
[10:58.16]We plan to walk along here to this great picnic
[11:02.96]and barbecue place with a waterfall,called Wattamolla.
[11:08.94]Lots of people go there just for the day to have a picnic lunch.
[11:14.12]Of course Dave will have to drive the van.
[11:18.30]This area here is Audley.
[11:22.11]Steve:Where? Oh yeah.
[11:26.00]Jane:It's not a town,
[11:29.11]it's just a place where two rivers join where you can hire rowboats.
[11:35.30]We'll spend the last day here and then we'll all pile into the van
[11:41.81]so Dave can drive us back to Sutherland to get the train home.
[11:48.42]Copy the letter for the area of the map
[11:53.41]and the activity against numbers 8 to 11 in any order.
[12:00.51]STOP YOUR TAPE
[12:06.70]That is the end of Section I.
[12:10.59]You now have half a minute to check your answers.
