RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Flamengo star Ronaldinho Gaucho may have played in his last game with the team on Sunday. The veteran midfielder described the team's final standing in fourth place of the Brazilian Championship as a sense of accomplishment. The placement qualified the team to play in the 2012 Libertadores Cup.
However, despite carrying a contract through July of 2014, Ronaldinho may not be around to compete in next year's Libertadores Cup.
Flamengo has not paid him over the last four months, causing much complaint from his brother and agent Assis.
Multiple clubs are interest in acquiring Ronaldinho, including a Greek prince that has openly promised to take the athlete from Brazil to Greece.
Additionally, the United States' MLS club, the Los Angeles Galaxy, have had their sights on the player for a number of years in hopes of attracting wider audience.
When asked about his future with Flamengo, Ronaldinho responded that he wants to stay with the Brazilian team and eventually end his career there. However, he mentioned that a series of circumstances remain unsettled and that his definitive permanence is up in the air.
Flamengo president Patricia Amorim will work hard during the end in order to secure both Ronaldinho Gaucho and Tiago Neves. Neves currently belongs to Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal. Flamengo and Amorim are currently negotiating the purchase of the player's rights in order for him to continue in Rio de Janeiro. |
